]]>The artist, who goes by JK on Instagram, stumbled upon a black cat behind their housing area and it was love at first sight! They’ve been inseparable ever since, and JK is trying to convey the sassiness and complexity of black cats through their funny illustrations.
“I adopted a cat in early 2021, and I am really into her grumpy and sassy cattitude; that’s how the whole story started. I observe her, play with her, and I blend her cattitude with my sarcastic nature into the painting,” the artist told Bored Panda.
JK doesn’t have a traditional art background and describes themselves as “a self-taught and always learning artist.” Their illustrations are mainly inspired by Pow Pow, and the artist is trying to capture her colors, textures, and emotions with each brushstroke.
Since embarking on this journey, Pow Pow’s adventures attracted almost 270,000 followers to the Instagram page @st.aftercigs. It can take anywhere between 3-5 days for JK to finish their illustrations, but they’re certainly worth the wait.

]]>Loewe is a South African illustrator and graphic designer based in the Netherlands, but her academic background actually has nothing to do with digital art. She majored in theatre and performance at the University of Cape Town and spent many years working in this field, in such roles as senior stage manager, production assistant, and even creative director.
Loewe decided to branch out during the Covid pandemic and started teaching herself how to draw and design digitally. In less than two years, she developed a quite distinctive personal style and attracted over 50,000 followers to her Instagram page.
“I create dreamy images using bright colors, the female form, and natural elements. With each drawing, I am attempting to learn how to unlock my creativity and express my emotional and psychological landscape,” she explains on her official website.
One of the reasons why people connect with her art so deeply are lengthy captions that follow most of her Instagram posts. She’s not afraid to bare her soul and explain how her inner battles impacted her work, and that’s what makes her illustrations so magnetic.

]]>Abdullatif takes everyday saying and phrases and turns them into pun-filled illustrations. His works are minimalistic but filled with characters that will both make you laugh and charm you with their cute looks.
When browsing through Abdullatif’s works, you’ll encounter phrases that you probably use every day. However, there is a chance that you’ll start thinking about them in a different way and have to battle the urge not to chuck next time you or someone else mentions them.
For example, the phrase “I’d be lost without you” is illustrated using two happy socks. An illustration of two glass panels, one clear and the other tinted, illustrates, “I want to be perfectly clear with you.”
Aside from these charming and funny cartoons, Abdullatif, who has 12 years of experience in graphic design and illustrations, also creates all sorts of conceptual and vector art. His works can be found all over the internet, but the best place to check them out is his Instagram profile. Continue scrolling to see some of our favorites.

]]>Cain graduated in psychology from UCLA, and her art allows her to combine her passion for creative storytelling and her expertise in mental health care. She often uses her work to address her own experience surrounding relationships, boundaries, trauma, healing, and living with mental illness.
Cain’s main goal is to connect with others through shared experiences and make people living with mental illness feel less alone.
“I think what sets me apart is that I am not afraid to discuss the more difficult and unhappy aspects of living with mental health challenges, but I’m able to do so in a more lighthearted way,” she told Voyage LA.
It’s only been a few years since Cain started sharing her work online in 2020 and she quickly built an impressive following of over 230,000 people on Instagram. She also worked with many major brands, such as MTV and Rare Beauty, and was even invited to the White House as a mental health advocate.

]]>Xsullo is the alter ego of the visual artist Nick Sullo, who started working on this project alongside his wife in 2015. He studied at the Academy of Fine Art in San Francisco and started his career as a visual effects artist in Hollywood before deciding to do his own thing.
According to the artist’s official website, he “thematically explores a cybernetic post-gender Punk world with a focus on how technology affects the human body on a personal or social level” and enjoys “documenting everything that concerns current events and touches us as human beings.”
Xsullo uses 3D software to bring his illustrations to life, before coloring and lightening the scene and drawing over the image in Manga Studio. His artwork is often inspired by internal struggles he’s facing and he’s using it as a coping mechanism.
Even though he’s primarily a digital artist, who enjoys experimenting with NFTs and crypto art, Xsullo is no stranger to traditional mediums and he enjoys recreating some of his art with acrylic and spray paint.

]]>Lavater is a Swiss artist and illustrator based in Basel, and the natural beauty of his home country awakened his love for outdoor adventures. Since Switzerland happens to be a landlocked country best known for its breathtaking mountains, most of Lavater’s outdoor adventures took place in the Alps before he discovered surfing at 21.
He’s been hooked ever since, and he’s been chasing waves everywhere from France and Spain to Portugal and Morocco in the years to come. Surfing became such an essential part of his life that he couldn’t resist but include it in his art.
“I loved drawing ever since I can remember, so it was a natural step when I shifted from drawing superheroes to drawing waves and everything around the surfing culture. Inspired by the amazing creative community on Instagram I too started sharing my art,” he explains on his official website.
Lavater’s art is inspired by the idea that life comes at us in waves, and the best wave is yet to come—as long as you keep on surfing.

]]>Karim is a Berlin-based illustrator, who attracted over 100,000 followers to his Instagram page with his black and white drawings. He got his Bachelor of Arts degree in design/illustration in 2016 but struggled to find his own artistic style before giving ink a shot.
“When I tried ink for the very first time, I was really surprised how beautiful the pigmentation was. I looked up several artists who worked with ink and was blown away by the black and white composition and simplicity,” he told Baram House.
Karim’s illustrations may look quite simple, but the deeper meaning always hides between the lines, and he leaves it up to the audience to come to their own conclusions.
Most of Karim’s illustrations are inspired by women’s strengths and vulnerabilities, and he’s hoping they’ll feel empowered and understood when looking at his art. Guided by the Japanese proverb “hair is the heart of a woman”, he often puts hair front and center in his illustrations, showing it transform into rivers, oceans, and the cosmos itself.

He’s also the founder of the product design sketch academy called Sketch Factory, and he’s using his knowledge to help others learn the basics of product design sketch and marker rendering.
Han spent over a decade teaching sketching and developed a comprehensive curriculum to help other aspiring artists learn the secrets of his craft. Even after so many years in the business, he’s constantly coming up with ways to keep his art fresh, and he most recently did it by exploring the connection between product and fashion design.
“When people design products, they often search for numerous references, including product images, related to the product they are designing…It will be helpful if you search for references in other design areas, such as fashion design. You can refresh your thinking in this way,” he explained on his Instagram page.

]]>Au is a 100% self-taught artist and she started painting and drawing as a hobby, about ten years ago. She mostly used books to learn the tricks of the trade, and eventually decided to specialize in watercolor art, while also working with gouache, acrylic, and colored pencils from time to time.
Au is the author of the book called Painting Desserts, and she enjoyed painting food since the start of her artistic journey because she believes it has a deeper meaning.
“Food is much more than sustenance. It is cultural. It reminds us of our good time with family and friends, celebrations, consolations and more. Although I am more recognized as a food illustrator, I let my curiosity run wild as much as I can,” she explains on her official website, adding that she also enjoys working on botanical, animal, and urban paintings.
In addition to selling her work, Au also offers workshops where she’s teaching people to paint desserts from scratch. She’s also hosting sketching tours in Windsor and the National Gallery, London through Airbnb Experiences.

“The meaning behind Naptime Doodler is simple. I’m a new mom who left the corporate world to spend more time with my baby. My son’s naptimes became my drawing times and it was a way for me to unwind, relax, and work on my passion,” Tam explained on her San Jose Made page.
Tam’s illustrations attracted over 30,000 followers to her Instagram page, and we’ve seen her explore many different subjects, but her Studio Ghibli-inspired art caught our eye. She’s on top of her game whenever she’s illustrating burgers, popsicles, macarons, and other foods inspired by My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and other Studio Ghibli films.
