Fabian Lavater describes himself as a “daydreamer and mindsurfer” and he found a creative way to mix his love for art and surfing into one. His mindful illustrations are mostly inspired by his favorite sport and they see his characters surfing their way through life and never giving up.
Lavater is a Swiss artist and illustrator based in Basel, and the natural beauty of his home country awakened his love for outdoor adventures. Since Switzerland happens to be a landlocked country best known for its breathtaking mountains, most of Lavater’s outdoor adventures took place in the Alps before he discovered surfing at 21.
He’s been hooked ever since, and he’s been chasing waves everywhere from France and Spain to Portugal and Morocco in the years to come. Surfing became such an essential part of his life that he couldn’t resist but include it in his art.
“I loved drawing ever since I can remember, so it was a natural step when I shifted from drawing superheroes to drawing waves and everything around the surfing culture. Inspired by the amazing creative community on Instagram I too started sharing my art,” he explains on his official website.
Lavater’s art is inspired by the idea that life comes at us in waves, and the best wave is yet to come—as long as you keep on surfing.
