Zoe Keller is an illustrator from Portland who explores the ongoing cycle of life and death with her peculiar illustrations. Her latest collection is called Scale & Bone and it shows various types of snakes drawn in her unique style along with insects and florals.
With her art, Keller is trying to raise awareness of the ecosystem destruction many people tend to forget about. She chooses snakes because “they elicit such a strong response in so many people,” as she told This is Colossal. “Through the use of visual narratives that are interjected with surreal and magical elements, I hope to allow the species in my drawings to speak with urgency to the forces causing their decline in this time of human-driven mass extinction,” the artist added.
Over 115,000 people follow Keller on Instagram at the moment and we invite you to join them if you like her art. If you want to see more, check out the website of Portland’s Antler Gallery which currently offers a virtual tour of Keller’s work.
