It takes a truly talented artist to create a piece of art that’s powerful enough to transport you to a completely different world. Concept artist, painter, and illustrator Devin Elle Kurtz has that rare talent and her digital art is as enchanting and magical as it gets.
Kurtz fell in love with digital art thanks to her mother, who went to college for graphic design when she was a toddler. Instead of keeping her busy with coloring books, she would give her daughter a tablet with Photoshop to play around with, and that’s when her love for digital art was born.
She found painting calming and comforting, and drew inspiration from Studio Ghibli movies, sketching all sorts of whimsical creatures everywhere she went. Art also helped her deal with chronic illness in her youth, and her belief in the magic of nature kept her strong and positive during her darkest days.
According to her official website, Kurtz now focuses on “magical scenes that combine fantasy elements with environments that feel visceral and real.” In addition to sharing her art with over 750,000 followers on Instagram, she’s been working as a professional background painter/designer and visual development artist since 2017, even serving as the lead background painter on Netflix’s Disenchantment.
