Indian Journalist Documents Diverse Patterns in Mumbai Taxis

Rachel Lopez is a journalist from Mumbai, India, who kinda has a thing for taxi ceilings. Many people are looking for interesting floors to capture photos if and share on social media under the hashtag #ihavethisthingwithfloors, but Lopez decided to try a different approach and document ceilings in taxis.

This happened for two reasons; first, everyone’s looking at floors and she wanted to see what’s above our heads, and second, taxis in Mumbai are an inexhaustible source of fun and quirky ceiling patterns.

There are around 60,000 taxis in Mumbai and, even though many cars are a few same models, each of them has a unique interior pattern. These patterns are actually a plastic or vinyl cover that protects the felt fabric from accidents and, as you can tell, are a common thing in Mumbai.

Lopez has been collecting these photos since April 2017, and by now she has a pretty big collection. Here are some of them and you can check out more on her Instagram page.
