Lauren Puren Creates Botanical Sculptures Using Wires and Fabric

At first glance, the works of artist Lauren Puren look like they are flowers captured under a glass dome and frozen in time. However, once you remove the glass, you discover that your eyes are fooling you. These flowers are actually made out of wires and fabric.

Puren crafts her botanical sculptures with impressive attention to detail while encompassing the entire plant. She manages to recreate the stems, the roots, and the petals in a way that mimics the works of nature. However, they are not always identical to real-life plants, as Puren often adds her own interpretation to the mix.

According to the artist, the series of her botanical sculptures is inspired by the golden age of botanic in which the plants were documented from their root to flower. It aims to capture “something of the essence and detail of the plants we live amongst.”

“Plants which are celebrated, overlooked or seen as weeds are reframed in a way that makes you look, and look again,” she explains on her website.

So far, the artist has been sharing most of his works on her official website. However, you can check out several of these intriguing botanical sculptures on social media as well.
