Paper Artist Creates Series Focusing on Animals With Rare Genetic Mutation

Paper artist Nayan Shrimali recently presented a new series of paper artworks titled “Rare”. In the series, Shrimali focuses on animals that have rare genetic mutations of albinism and melanism.

According to Shrimali, his goal was to showcase the beauty of these animals and encourage people to appreciate rare and unusual occurrences in the natural world.

“This collection of artworks showcases the grace of birds and other wild beings with this peculiar genetic trait,” the artist shares on his website.

Describing his creative process, Shrimali shares that each of the pieces starts out as a sketch. After that, the artist meticulously cuts the paper to form the feathers/fur of the animal featured in the work.

Next, the elements of the paper artwork are colored using watercolors to match the exact shade of their live counterparts. Finally, the pieces are assembled by hand to form an impressive piece of art.

There are 25 animals with albinism and melanism that found their place in Shrimali’s “Rare” series. The list includes white tigers, albino harvest mice, albino porcupines, melanistic leopards, white lions, and more.
