Social Media Influencer Gets a Fine for Hitting a Golf Ball into the Grand Canyon

These days, social media influencers are not exactly picky about the way they get attention to themselves as long as it generates views and likes for their content. While often successful, this approach also comes with lots of risks, something that TikTok star Katie Sigmond learned the hard way.

Back in October, Sigmond uploaded a video that showed her hitting a golf ball into the Grand Canyon and then throwing her golf club. The video quickly went viral but not for a good reason.

Many social media users were not happy to see this kind of negligence towards such a wonder of nature, and neither were the caretakers of the Grand Canyon National Park. They were informed about the incident, prompting them to file charges against Sigmond.

“Do we really need to say, ‘don’t hit golf balls into the Grand Canyon?’” they wrote on social media detailing their actions.

The case recently came to a conclusion after Sigmond, who had since deleted the video from her profile, admitted to her actions. She pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges and ended up settling for a fine of $285 to avoid a court appearance. The TikToker paid the fine in November and will probably think twice before shooting these kinds of videos.
