Richard Plaud’s matchstick replica of the Eiffel Tower was recently recognized as the tallest in the world by Guinness World Records. Plaud used more than 700,000 matches and spent eight years building the replica. Even more fascinating is that his attempt to break the record was almost rejected.

Plaud initially submitted his matchstick Eiffel Tower for record consideration in early January and believed he had it in the bag. After all, his replica was almost 23.6 feet tall, more than enough to surpass the previous record of 21.4 feet, which was set by Toufic Daher in 2009.

However, several weeks later, Plaud received a rejection letter from the Guinness World Records inspectors. In the letter, the inspectors told him that his replica was ineligible because he used the wrong kind of match.

As it turned out, the matches used for the replica had to be commercially available. Plaud, on the other hand, found the process of removing the sulfur heads off store-bought matches time-consuming, so he directly contacted the manufacturer and ordered plain matchsticks.

Plaud’s story was picked up by various media outlets and spread on the internet, with the publicity causing Guinness World Records to reconsider their decision. They eventually accepted Plaud’s submission and officially awarded him the record.

If you have some extra money sitting around and you don’t know where to spend them, then the ice cream made by the Japanese company Cellato might be just the right thing for you. Their flagship ice cream Byakuya costs $6,696 (873,400 Japanese yen) and has just broken the Guinness World Record for the most expensive ice cream in the world.

The reason why Byakuya ice cream costs so much are high-priced ingredients required to make it. It uses a special white truffle that comes from Alba, Italy, that costs $15,192 per kilogram. Among other ingredients are Parmigiano Reggiano, sake lees, and edible gold.

According to the company, it took them one and a half years to perfect the ice cream.

The ones who had a chance to sample the ice cream say it is worth the price thanks to being rich in taste and texture. This is achieved by the robust fragrance of white truffle that combines well with the “complex and fruity tastes of Parmigiano Reggiano.”

“It took us over 1.5 years to develop, with a lot of trials and errors to get the taste right. Achieving a Guinness World Records title made the effort all worth it,” Cellato representative told the Guinness World Record official website.

Reserve, Louisiana native Aevin Dugas is making headlines with her impressive afro hairstyle once again. She recently broke Guinness World Record for “largest afro on a living person (female)” for the third time with an afro that measures 9.84 in tall, 10.4 in wide, and 5.41 ft in circumference.

In an interview with Guinness World Record’s official website earlier this month, Dugas revealed that she has been growing her afro since 1999. She wasn’t actually aiming for the hairstyle at the time and instead just wanted to keep her hair natural.

“That was because I was tired of using dangerous chemicals to permanently straighten my hair,” she explained.”

Dugas first got the record back in 2012 with a 4ft 4in afro before besting it in 2021 with an afro of 5ft 2in. She set the most recent record for the largest afro in September 2022.

Despite having an impressive afro, Dugas revealed that she isn’t actually wearing it that often. Instead, she opts for other hairstyles and saves the afro for special occasions.

“The afro is the one people rarely see because it can be a bit much,” she explained.

If you are looking to grow an afro or want to learn how to maintain one, you’ll be happy to hear that Dugas has a TikTok account where she shares tips on this hairstyle.

The Guinness World Records tracks all sorts of impressive, scary, and bizarre records. But in between all of these, there are also many wholesome and adorable records. For example, did you know that there is a record for most dogs in a conga line? Well, now you do, and you can watch it get broken if you continue reading.

Back in August, German trainer Wolfgang Lauenburger and his canine friends decided to attempt breaking the most dogs in the conga line record and ended up shattering it. Fourteen dogs – Emma, Filou, Fin, Simon, Susy, Maya, Ulf, Speck, Bibi, Katie, Jennifer, Elvis, Charly, and Cathy – perfectly linked up together and worked as one to ensure their names will be written in the Guinness Book of World Record.

Guinness World Records officials recently confirmed the new record holders and shared footage of the successful attempt on their YouTube channel.

Curiously, the previous record for most dogs in the conga line was posted by Lauenburger’s daughter Alexa back in 2019 with nine dogs. Alexa was only 12 years old at the time and relied on the help of the same dogs that helped her father set the new record.

Can pizza ever be too big? We don’t think so, and neither does Pizza Hut. This is why the world-famous pizza chain teamed up with Youtuber Erick Decker aka Airrack to make the world’s biggest pizza.

The pizza, which was part of the promotion for the return of Pizza Hut’s “Big New Yorker,” was “built” in the Los Angeles Convention Center earlier this week. It ended up measuring 13,990 square feet and needed 13,653 pounds of dough. For toppings, 4,948 pounds of pizza sauce, 8,800 pounds of cheese, and 630,496 pieces of pepperoni were used.

Baking the pizza was as much of a challenge as it was assembling it. It needed to be baked in batches and then re-assembled on site.

The Guinness Book of World Records representative was at the site where the pizza was being made and officially confirmed that it was the biggest pizza in the world. The previous record was set in 2012 with a 13,580-square-foot pizza made by a group of Italian chefs.

Of course, the pizza didn’t go to waste. According to Pizza Hut’s CEO David Graves, as soon as Guinness confirmed the record, the pizza was sliced into roughly 68,000 slices and shipped to LA’s food banks.

Completing a marathon is quite a feat that not many people can achieve. This is what makes Erchana Murray-Bartlett’s accomplishment of running marathon distance every day for 107 straight days so extraordinary.

Murray-Bartlett started this unique challenge on August 20th from Cape York, Queensland, by running a marathon distance of 26.2 miles. She then did the same thing the next day, the day after, and every day since then.

On December 3, she completed 107 marathons, which was enough to break the Guinness World Record for most marathons in a row by a woman. The previous record holder was Kate Jayden, who completed 107 straight marathons earlier in 2022.

However, Murray-Bartlett didn’t stop herself there. She will continue running until she has 150 consecutive marathons under her belt. Her final goal is to reach Melbourne, Victoria, on her last marathon.

Besides pushing the limits of the human body, Murray-Bartlett is also running for a good cause. She hopes to raise awareness about Australia’s loss of biodiversity and the increasing number of endangered animals. Her campaign has already raised $50,000 and continues to be open for donations.

“I’m running to be the voice of our native animals and the wild places they call home. I wanted to counteract a bad world record (Australia being a world leader in biodiversity loss) with a good world record,” she shared in a recent chat with Running Magazine.

A cute feline named Flossie is the oldest cat in the world, according to Guinness World Records. Flossie, who lives in London with her human mom Vicki Green, was 26 years and 329 days old when presented with the record. This is equal to a human living 120 years.

Green revealed that she adopted Flossie only recently. She wanted to give some elderly cats a proper home and ended up finding Flossie while browsing the website of the cat welfare organization Cats Protection.

“I knew from the start that Flossie was a special cat, but I didn’t imagine I’d share my home with a world record holder,” she told Guinness World Records.

Despite her age and the fact that she is deaf and has poor vision, Flossie keeps a positive spirit and is in overall good health, according to her owner.

“She’s so affectionate and playful, especially sweet when you remember how old she is,” Green shared.

Flossie was born in 1995 and she was a stray before getting adopted by a medical worker at Liverpool’s Merseyside hospital. She spent 10 years with her original owner before being passed on to other members of the family and eventually landing with Cats Protection.

Flossie is currently the oldest living cat but is far from reaching the record age. This title belongs to a cat named Crème Puff, which lived up to 38 years.

Having a Guinness World Record on your resume is always a good thing, especially in Konstantinos Koutoupis’ line of work. This Greek hairdresser recently broke the world record for the fastest haircut, giving one client a hairdo in just 47.17 seconds.

The video of the record-breaking attempt was posted on Guinness World Records’ official Twitter page and created quite a buzz (pun intended) on social media. It shows Koutoupis working with just a trimmer and a comb, turning a messy head full of hair into a stylish look.

After Koutoupis finished doing his magic, an official approached to examine the work the Athens-based hairdresser did. Impressively, the haircut was not only fitting from the visual standpoint but also passed the measuring test.

Of course, being officially endorsed by Guinness World Records didn’t cut it for some social media users. One user blasted the haircut, saying that “not even the guy who got his haircut looks happy with it.” Another one asked what stops him from “just cutting anything and claiming the record?”

If you ask us, we are actually impressed with how Koutoupis did in such a short time. His business should particularly benefit from this since now people will now know where they can get a decent haircut in under a minute in case of emergency.

Owning any type of Guinness World Record is a big deal, no matter how small or silly it may seem. You get to be part of a small group of people and have the bragging rights of doing something that no one ever did. For example, visiting 69 fast food restaurants in 24 hours.

Ex-MasterChef finalists Nick DiGiovanni and social media chef Lynn Davis already own two Guinness World Records for making the world’s largest cake pop and world’s largest chicken nugget. They recently decided to add another one to their resume by attempting to break the world record for most fast food restaurants visited in 24 hours.

DiGiovanni and Davis decided to pick New York City’s Times Square as their starting location and brought an official Guinness adjudicator to follow them and make sure everything was legit. As part of their quest, they had to enter each location and purchase at least one menu item. The adjudicator clarified that they don’t have to consume everything they buy, so the pair decided to give away most of their purchases to strangers.

In the end, the dynamic duo managed to visit 69 fast food restaurants, easily beating the previous record of 50. They did all of that on foot, needing seven hours and 15 minutes to hit all the locations and walking eight miles in total. Check out what their Guinness World Record-breaking journey looked like in the video below.

Li Longlong is a Chinese athlete who recently broke his own Guinness World Record for climbing the most stairs with his head. His previous record, set in 2012, was 34 steps, and now he is able to climb 36 steps.

The Guinness World Record Youtube channel shared the video of Longlong doing it on February 4th, writing: “Li Longlong, who is from the Henan province of mainland China, has held the record for most consecutive stairs climbed on the head since 2012 – and he makes it look so easy!”

For most of us, doing a headstand alone is challenging and we can’t imagine having to climb the stairs with our head! Longlong managed to do the impossible and follow the strict rules while doing it. For example, he couldn’t pause for more than five seconds between steps. Also, he wasn’t allowed to touch the steps with any other body part besides his head. You can see Longlong setting the new record in the video below.
