Nayan Shrimali and Vaishali Chudasama used to work in a design company making miniature models.
Paper art has always been their childhood love and after working in the industry for some time, they decided to start their own studio, NV Illustration, in December 2015. Their first artworks in paper cut were miniature paper jewellery and display pieces. Then they kept exploring new ideas and have always tried to challenge themselves with more detailed miniature art.
Recently, the India-based artists have set themselves the ambitious goal to create one mini paper bird every day for an entire year. The project titled, 365 Days of Miniature, features exotic, vibrant birds such woodland birds, parrots, seabirds, guineafowl, and many more. They hand-cut various layers from watercolor paper before assembling them into the final “2.5 dimensional look.” Then each piece is hand-painted with lifelike colors and intricate details. The work takes around 4-6 hours to complete.
“We enjoyed each bird everyday and learned a lot about birds and their nature while making them,” the artists shared. You can see more of their paper bird creations on Instagram.
