TikToker Helps 81-year-Old Walmart Worker Retire

An 81-year-old Walmart worker Nola Carpenter recently received some great news. Thanks to a GoFund me campaign organized by TikTok user Devan Bonagura, Carpenter can finally retire and enjoy her old age properly.

Bonagura met Carpenter back in November when he found himself in the break room of a New Jersey Walmart. The woman seemed exhausted but revealed that she has to keep working because she can’t afford to retire.

Bonagura captured the scene on the video and later shared it on his social media with the caption: “Life shouldn’t be this hard.”

The video quickly became viral and has been seen more than 31 million times to date. This prompted Bonagura to create a Go Fund Me campaign for Carpenter, and the social media users responded. The campaign quickly reached more than $100,000, but that wasn’t still enough for Carpenter to stop working. In a follow-up video, she explained that she would need an additional $60K to completely pay off the mortgage on her home.

Seeing that Carpenter isn’t all that far from her goal, the users continued with the donation until the number was met. The campaign ended up collecting more than $180K, allowing the woman to finally stop working.

In a final update, she told Bonagura that she intends to continue working until the end of the year to help with the holiday season and then embrace well-deserved retirement.

“I’m going to help them out for the holidays, and after that, it’ll be good to stay at home,” Carpenter explained.
