Meet Jben, a man with a unique talent for creating massive sand drawings. He lives on the French West coast in Royan and his artistic journey began in 2013 when he started creating massive sand drawings using rakes. But it was only in 2015 that drawing on the beach became his full-time job.

“Beach art is a kind of land art, but based on performance, because you only have four hours to make a unique design between the tides,” the artist said in a post for Bored Panda.

Jben’s artwork—each more impressive than the last—is commissioned by people, companies, or organizations. The process begins with him carefully selecting the perfect location on the beach. Then smooths out the sand and creates a blank canvas. From there, he gets to work, using rakes to shape the sand into a stunning work of art.

When he is done with the drawing he uses a drone to take pictures of his art. The designs can be between 30 and 100 meters wide depending on the complexity and also the tide.

“I often go to the beach with no idea of what I’ll make but a few times it can be prepared on paper. Designs can sometimes be inspired by tattoo art or other ideas I can discover on the internet. I love to make graphic designs and to use patterns,” Jben added.
