Ashlee Major-Moss Chronicles the Ups and Downs of Traveling Solo as a Woman of Color

Traveling on your own isn’t an easy task and it can be especially challenging for women of color. That didn’t stop Ashlee Major-Moss from giving it a try and she fell in love with solo travel after deciding to hit the road alone and live her life on her own terms.

Major-Moss’s journey in the world of travel blogging started in 2018 and she’s now followed by over 130,000 people. She was feeling really low at the beginning of that year after losing her job but decided to embark on a solo trip to Asia in an attempt to find her spark again.

This proved to be the best decision she ever made and her first solo trip to Singapore and Malaysia was just one of many. Six months later, she decided to go backpacking through Asia, stayed at hostels, and started meeting people and exchanging experiences.

Major-Moss decided to share her travels on social media to keep her loved ones updated, but her Instagram quickly blew up and she eventually started her own travel blog.

“A lot of black women and women of color in particular were interested in my journey because traveling solo just wasn’t something we did in our own communities. I fell in love with all of the beautiful places I could explore, and living life on my own terms,” she told The 247.
