You are probably familiar with the egg drop game. The goal is to build a contraption that will allow an egg to survive when dropped from a certain height. Popular YouTuber and former NASA engineer Mark Rober recently decided to up the difficulty level to the max by attempting an egg drop from space.
In a recent viral video posted on YouTube, Rober chronicles his journey of attempting the most ambitious egg drop in history. His original idea was to send the egg into outer space, then have it return to Earth and land on a mattress. But this proved to be a lot more complicated than he anticipated.
It turned out that there was no way to make the rocket that carries the egg land on the designated target without giving it some kind of navigation system. But by doing this, the rocket would be turned into a missile and get Rober in a lot of trouble. So he decided to pivot.
Instead of attempting to land an egg onto a mattress, Rober decided to see if he could do a successful egg drop from space. He built a contraption for the egg, sent it to space using a weather balloon, and took his chances.
