Chelsey White became a true Instagram sensation thanks to her picture-perfect cakes, but it took her a while to get there. This self-taught baker spent a lot of time juggling her job as an accountant with baking before deciding to take a leap of faith and become a baker full-time.
Most food bloggers who left their corporate jobs behind couldn’t wait to make the career change, but that wasn’t necessarily the case with White. She enjoyed her job and had a great relationship with her boss and colleagues, but her schedule got insane once her business Chelsweets started booming.
Her social media channels were growing, brands were constantly offering her collaborations, and she was earning more from her “side hustle” than her corporate job before she finally decided it’s time to make a choice because she can’t do both.
“Life doesn’t always turn out the way you think it will – I thought I wanted to be a Partner at an accounting firm or CFO when I first moved to New York and began my career, but sometimes the unexpected turns can lead to the most rewarding paths,” explained White on her blog.
Becoming a full-time baker and contender creator proved to be the right choice—her cakes are getting more adorable by the day and she has 1.3 million Instagram and 2.1 million TikTok followers.
