Danielle Currie’s Stunning Embroidery is Inspired by NASA Satellite Imagery

There’s something truly magical about looking at NASA’s satellite images, and one embroidery artist decided to take her fascination with them to the next level. Danielle Currie is stitching together incredible works of art drawing inspiration from satellite imagery.

Currie is the mastermind behind the Instagram page Satellite Stitches and she works as a government environmental project officer in New Brunswick, Canada. She’s always been fascinated by satellite imagery and maps, and she decided to blend this passion with her love for embroidery.

She enjoys looking through images from NASA’s Ocean Biology Processing Group, looking for interesting patterns that she can recreate. Her technique is pretty unique, and she uses strands of embroidery floss to recreate satellite imagery on Kona cotton.

“The patterns and colors captured from that vantage point are stunning, especially images of movement patterns of biological processes… I hope that others can see what I see and can come to realize how special and incredibly important oceans are,” Currie told The National News.

Currie grew up on the east coast of Canada, and her art is also inspired by her love for the ocean. The pops of blues, greens, and gray come together to gorgeously recreate the ocean’s wild waters on each of her stunning tapestries.
