Discover the Magical World of Madeline Rector’s Magazine Paper Mosaics

Mosaic is a truly special art form that has evolved quite a bit throughout history, but Madeline Rector still found a way to put her own twist on it. She’s the mastermind behind amazing magazine paper mosaics, which come with a deeply personal backstory.

The Texas-based artist has been collecting magazines since her childhood, thanks to her loving grandfather. Her family used to have lunch with her grandparents every Sunday after church, and since Rector and her sister often got bored, her grandpa would bring them magazines to fill their time and keep them entertained.

Rector saved them all and decided to put them to some good use many years later. She started creating her paper mosaics using old magazines that her grandpa gave her, and she now chronicles each step of her creative journey through time-lapse videos on her Instagram and TikTok.

Rector usually starts each mosaic with a sketch, before ripping the tiny pieces from the magazines and organizing them by color. To make the whole thing even more amazing, her paintings are affected by light. The colors may appear different depending on the light, making her works of art even more reminiscent of the more traditional stained glass mosaics.
