Emi Hazlett is Using the Power of Paper Art to Recreate Beautiful Buildings

Paper art takes many different shapes and forms and it’s always a joy to discover artists who are presenting it in a whole new light. Emi Hazlett is one of them, and she specializes in crafting intricate paper models of beautiful buildings, often inspired by Dutch architecture.

Hazlett is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and she’s a professional designer, with over a decade of experience under her belt. She was always interested in paper art and decided to explore it during the first COVID lockdown when she tried to recreate a building that she could see from her window using nothing but paper.

That’s how her love for creating paper buildings was born, and she never looked back. She loves works of art that feature a lot of tiny details and enjoys creating something unique with each one.

“From photographs, I design each building digitally, cut on my plotter and then fold, shape and assemble each little piece by hand. I use high-quality textured paper sourced from local independent stores. I enjoy working both in all white paper and in beautiful colors,” explains Hazlett on her official website.

In addition to creating paper models of buildings in her hometown, Hazlett is also open to custom orders and enjoys having people’s homes recreated with paper.
