Hyundai Ioniq 5 Car Prototype Has “Crab Walking” Mode That Allows it to Move Sideways

Each time we face a challenging parallel parking situation, we end up wondering why no one has invented cars that can also move sideways. Well, it turns out someone did.

Hyundai recently presented a test version of its new Hyundai Ioniq 5 model that comes equipped with e-Corner System technology. This technology gives much bigger autonomy to car wheels and allows the driver to drive the car sideways at 90 degrees in “craw walking” mode. The vehicle can also move diagonally and do a full 360 rotation in place.

The South Korean carmaker recently showcased this groundbreaking technology in a video posted on Youtube.

The e-Corner System has the potential to make life on the road a lot easier for drivers. You could simply stop the car parallel to a parking space and slide into it instead of going back and forth for five minutes and realizing you still didn’t park properly. It would also be perfect for driving in cities with narrow streets and tight corners.

However, it is important to note that e-Corner System is still in the prototype phase. There is no indication that the technology will soon be part of the new models, although Hyundai previously said it intends to start using it in mass production in 2025.
