Many food artists use nature as a source of inspiration for their sweet creations and Julián Ángel happens to be one of them. He became a huge hit on social media thanks to his colorful floral cakes, which look too beautiful to be eaten.
Ángel is the mastermind behind the Instagram page @historiasdelciervo and he’s been creating cakes under this moniker since 2015. When embarking on this journey, his main goal was to combine different areas of visual art and home baking and tell stories with his cakes through different visual narratives and the use of social media.
Even though his cakes look pretty elaborate, they’re not actually meticulously planned. He usually starts things off by picking a theme, such as romantic, fantastic, and tropical, proceeds by looking for fresh and local ingredients, and lets things fall into place from there.
“Sometimes an image comes to my mind as an abstract idea – I usually do not sketch or plan exactly what I will do, I just start baking and decorating and let the cake come straight from the heart. It’s amazing because my cake designs are always a surprise even for me,” Ángel told Time Out.
In addition to crafting some of the most beautiful cakes that you’ll ever come across, Ángel also hosts baking workshops around the world, helping others learn the secrets of his craft.
