Kentaro Okawara’s Paintings are Colorful and Playful

When he was only five years old, Kentaro Okawara would send hand-made cards to his grandma every week after his grandfather’s passing. It was his way of cheering her up and he kept that childlike innocence years later, which can be clearly seen in his paintings. The Tokyo-based artist has a unique and refreshing style that will put a smile on your face.

“Ever since I was young, I’ve always loved making things. I’ve always drawn exactly what I want to draw. But over time, bit by bit, I got distracted by more sensible ways of thinking,” he told WePresent. He had a problem with adjusting to the ways things were “supposed” to be done, so he managed to escape that and live a life where he could create whatever he wanted.
