Malisa Suchanya Will Grab Your Attention With Her Stunning Hand Paintings

Most artists see hands as a tool that’s there to help them bring their vision to life, but Malisa Suchanya embraced a different approach. The Oakland-based artist uses her skills as a painter to capture the beauty and complexity of human hands and the power they hold.

Suchanya originally hails from Singapore, but she’s currently based in Oakland, California. She’s an artist and illustrator, who mostly works with watercolors, gouache, and acrylic, relying on traditional art instead of embracing a more modern approach like many of her peers.

Suchanya says she sees art as a platform for creating dialogues between life and death, man and nature, peace and conflict, and these are the most common subjects in her art.

“She finds joy in reflecting on her world and the human experience, capturing moments that are oftentimes overlooked. Drawing from personal experiences, meditating on relationships, and celebrating the beauty of the human body are all reoccurring themes in her work,” she explains on her official website.

We’ve seen Suchanya explore many different topics over the years, but she’s recently been focusing her energy on incredibly realistic hand paintings. Many of them blossom and pulse with life, capturing the understated beauty and power that we hold in our hands.
