If you love exploring the great outdoors but lack the courage to put yourself out there, Renee Hahnel will give you the push in the right direction. She specializes in outdoor travel and she’s on a mission to inspire other people to get outside and explore the world.
Hahnel was born in Melbourne, Australia, and fell in love with travel at a young age. Her parents took her everywhere from New Zealand to Europe and South East Asia while she was still a teen and encouraged her to never lose her free and adventurous spirit.
“We lived modestly and didn’t have expensive cars or a super fancy house. But my parents made one thing very clear to my sister and me… experiences are worth more than possessions. I will forever be thankful to my parents for helping me understand this,” she explains on her blog.
Hahnel embarked on her first trip without her parents when she was 19 and spent two months backpacking across South America. She traveled everywhere from India to America before marrying her boyfriend Matthew, and they moved to Colorado a few years later.
She started her blog Renee Roaming to chronicle her weekend adventures in 2016, but it grew into much more than that. In the years to come, she went on to visit almost 30 countries, left her day job as a speech therapist, and attracted 850,000 followers to her Instagram page.
