Rob Strati Turns Broken Plates Into Intriguing Works of Art

Back in 2020, artist Rob Strati noticed that a broken plate, which belonged to his wife’s late mother, had been sitting in the kitchen for months. The plate was beyond repair but also had great sentimental value, so it couldn’t be thrown out. So Strati decided to turn it into an artwork.

Imagining all the stories that the plate contained, Strati took the fragments to his studio and laid them onto a piece of blank paper. He then started drawing the continuation of the story told on the plate, repairing the missing pieces, and drawing new ones. It was at this point that his series “Fragmented” came to life.

After receiving positive reactions to his first “Fragmented” piece, Strati continued sourcing more broken plates and turning them into artworks. According to the artist, his goal is to explore “the possibilities of things broken and the stories that can evolve from them.”

“Fragmented” captured not only the attention of social media users but also the art world. The series was featured in several exhibitions, including New York City’s Other Art Fair, while Strati regularly receives inquiries from collectors who want to buy some of the works. Check more of them below.
