Rune Fisker’s Illustrations are the Very Meaning of Engaging

It’s hard not to be moved (quite literally) by Rune Fisker’s illustrations. An animator first and foremost (with an animation company, Benny Box, which he runs alongside his brother, Esben), Fisker’s imagery creates a sense of movement from within, engaging with the viewers and drawing them in.

According to Fisker, his inspiration doesn’t only come from art but from his immediate environment. “All my experiences, things I see, hear, etc., get stirred around in my subconscious, and sometimes something interesting pops up,” he relayed in an interview with the Culture Trip. “Of course,” he adds, “when you are working for clients, you can’t wait for some divine, creative lightning bolt to hit you; you have to work at it. But you still get inspiration from that creative melting pot.”

Based in Copenhagen, Fisker can boast an impressive client list, with brands like Nike, Apple, Google, and Mozilla all collaborating with him. “I’m more interested in creating a feeling,” he says, “to [take] the viewer somewhere other than here. But it also depends on the assignment.”

“For my own work, I’m drawn towards a bit of a darker world than I necessarily am when working for clients,” he admits. Most recently he worked with Unilever on their global “Every U Does Good” campaign, where he created over 100 style frames and illustrations, which were then animated by The Line.

In the future, Rune is keen to try his hand at VR. But in the meanwhile you can follow his colorful exploration on Instagram.
