They say that all that glitters is not gold, but Sara Shakeel would like to disagree. This Pakistani artist made a splash on social media with her “glitter art”, and her viral collages are the most dazzling and glitzy thing that you’ll come across all day.
Shakeel fell in love with crystals thanks to her grandma, who used to collect them. She was always mesmerized looking at them and eventually decided to implement them into her art, creating both physical and digital collages using glitter and Swarovski crystals.
She started experimenting with Photoshop while looking for a creative outlet to deal with her depression after failing her last year of dental school. She kept creating her art in the hope it would spark positivity, love, and hope, inspiring people to look at the bright side of life.
“Every human being has that certain ray of light that eventually attracts all of us towards things that sparkle… Crystals have the power to accelerate the healing process as they reflect a sense of enlightenment which I find very calming and inspiring,” Shakeel explained in an interview for Mercedes Benz.
Shakeel went a long way since creating her first crystal collage and worked with many major brands. She finds inspiration everywhere around her, making crystal collages inspired by classic art, popular culture, nature, architecture, and everything in between.
