Thor: Love and Thunder is the latest Marvel blockbuster taking theatres by storm right now, and it features more hilarious scenes than we can count. Screaming goats are featured in many of them, and it turns out they were a viral sensation long before this movie came out – thanks to one popular Taylor Swift song.

Thor: Love and Thunder features many obscure references, but shrieks of these scene-stealing goats are one of the silliest ones. It turns out they’re a nod to Taylor Swift’s hit single “I Knew You Were Trouble” from her 2012 album Red.

Only the biggest Swifties out there remember that hilarious remix of this catchy song that contained sounds of screaming goat. They were a viral sensation ten years ago, boosting the popularity of the original video, and even Swift herself found them hilarious back in the day.

You know who else thought they were funny? Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi. Goats were always supposed to be in the movie because they’re a part of the Marvel canon, but we owe their loud screams to a long-forgotten Taylor Swift meme.

“They were never meant to be screaming. Then someone in post-production found this meme of a Taylor Swift song that has screaming goats in it. I didn’t even know that existed. So I hear the screaming goats and I just felt it was awesome,” Waititi told Insider.
