Shay Rose is Making Brilliant DIY Versions of Iconic Red Carpet Dresses

You know that feeling when you see your favorite celebrity wearing a dreamy dress on the red carpet and wish you had one just like it? Shay Rose knows that feeling all too well and she decided to do something about it—make DIY versions of the iconic red carpet looks.

Rose is a 23-year-old seamstress and DIY creator, who currently studies at UCLA. She’s using all the free time that she has on her hands to create amazing dresses that have to be seen to be believed, and they’ve attracted 1.4 million followers to her Instagram page @crescentshay.

Some of Rose’s best creations happen to be copycats of the iconic red carpet looks. The Met Gala seems to be her main source of inspiration and she created several dresses inspired by this star-studded event, worn by such celebrities as Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and Claire Danes. She even traveled decades back to the past and recreated Princess Diana’s timeless “revenge dress”.

Rose is usually inspired by Hollywood at large, but there are expectations to this rule. With some of her creations, she tried to push the boundaries of fashion from the comfort of her home, including her viral 12-foot-wide social distancing gown and cocktail dress made entirely of pennies.
