Street Artist Paints Haunting Graffiti in Barcelona’s Abandoned Buildings

If you ever decide to explore some abandoned buildings in Barcelona, Spain, don’t be surprised to see some haunting graffiti decorating their decaying walls. What have you encountered are the works of talented local street artist David Lozano.

Lozano is a well-known name on Barcelona’s street art scene, having spent the previous 25 years painting graffiti and tagging the city’s walls. More recently, Lozano decided to take his artworks to unusual places, where they have a much more powerful effect, despite being more difficult to find.

Seeing numerous buildings in and around Barcelona left to be swallowed by time, Lozano decided to give them some purpose. He uses their walls to create his impressive murals that depict well-known characters in a state of frenzy.

For example, Super Mario from the popular video game of the same name is depicted as a mushroom-hooked madman, while Homer from The Simpsons looks like he has been possessed by an unnatural force. Seeing these works in normal surroundings would be creepy enough, but witnessing them in a place where everything is threatening to fall apart is even more daunting.

But don’t worry if you are not in the mood to pay a visit to some abandoned building in Barcelona to see Lozano’s work in person. You can check out his works on social media as well, or scroll below to see our favorites.
