We pride ourselves on not being easily tricked by the things we see on the internet, but Japanese artist Tomo Tanaka definitely managed to fool us with his deliciously looking food miniatures.

When we first saw some photos of Tanaka’s works, we immediately heard our stomachs growling. There were hamburgers, croissants, cakes, salads, and all sorts of other food, looking for someone to sink their teeth in it. But if that had happened, they would probably end up having to book a dentist’s appointment. You see, all of Tanaka’s food is actually “cooked” using clay.

Tanaka, who creates under his brand Nunu’s House, has been involved in the world of miniatures for more than two decades. He creates all sorts of realistic figurines that look like faithful replications of real-life objects. This includes cookware, watches, jewelry, and everything else you can imagine.

His most recognizable works, however, are miniature foods we mentioned earlier. Despite making them on 1-12 or 1-24 scale, Tanaka manages to get even the slightest details right. His impressive ability and the appetizing effect of his works got him huge popularity on social media, especially on Instagram, where he has close to 250K followers.

Continue scrolling to see why Tanaka managed to fool us with his food figurines.

Want to make your meals a bit more fun and interesting for your kids? Then you might want to see how Corinne—aka _ghoul_mom_—is doing it. This Washington, DC-based food artist is turning ordinary food into quirky characters by making just a few small but effective interventions.

Corinne got into food art during the pandemic, wanting to surprise her kids with new and fun creations. It soon became a passion for her and is now a hobby that she wholesomely enjoys. Her Instagram page, where she showcases her newest food creations, has more than 20K followers, and the number is continuously growing.

The recurring theme in Corinne’s food creations are monsters, aliens, and other playful characters. They sometimes look weird or scary, but they are always delicious. This approach also allows her to get her kids interested in the food they usually are not too happy to eat.

“I feel inspired to make food art because it makes my kids laugh and try foods they wouldn’t normally be interested in,” she shared in a recent interview with Bored Panda.

Corinne’s goal is to continue amusing her family and social media followers with creative food art, and she hopes to have enough of them at one point to make a children’s book. Until then, check out more of her food characters below.

Convincing kids to eat healthy food isn’t an easy task, but Sarah Lescrauwaet-Beach found a creative way to get it done. She’s arranging fruits and veggies into edible food art, often inspired by our favorite Disney characters.

Lescrauwaet-Beach hails from Belgium and she fell in love with the diversity of different cuisines during her travels across Australia, Europe, and the US. She also wanted to help her kids develop a healthy relationship with food, and her Instagram page @edible_food_art_for_kids was born out of this idea.

“I found that I wanted a way to make fruit and vegetables fun and creative. What started as simple plates to give my children a smile soon became a creative way to unwind, bring my message to people around the world, and keep my kids coming back for more,” she told Bored Panda.

In addition to looking amazing, Lescrauwaet-Beach’s edible creations are as healthy as it gets. Fresh fruit, veggies, seeds, and nuts are her go-to ingredients, and she avoids using mashed potatoes, pasta, food dye, and artificial flavorings.

When it comes to inspiration, she finds it in the most unusual of places, but Disney movies are her clear favorite. She also enjoys paying homage to other animated classics through her work, from Pixar’s heartwarming movies to The Simpsons, Rugrats, and Garfield.

Lithuanian artist Jolita Vaitkute is known for using everyday objects and food to create intriguing artworks and installations. Recently, she has been sharing works from her newest project, “Hungry for Love,” which sees her creating portraits of people kissing entirely out of vegetables.

Despite portraits being made out of slices of carrots, cabbage, cucumbers, zucchini, and other veggies, the viewer can immediately recognize two people kissing. That is a testament to Vaitkute’s skills and the laborious process that goes into making her work.

What makes these works even more special is the fact that they are inspired by real life. Each veggie portrait actually tells a love story of two people that Vaitkute came in contact with.

“Every person told me a story about how they met. I did my best trying to express their feelings through food art,” Vaitkute explains.

According to Vaitkute, she is drawn to everyday objects as her preferred art tools because they can be easily returned to their original place, rearranged, or reused later. This is especially the case with food, which can be used to make artwork and then eaten.

Keep scrolling to check out more of Vaitkute’s intriguing artworks below.

Many food artists found viral fame by creating life-like desserts, but no one is doing it in the way that Kerry’s Bouqcakes does. The British food artist behind this Instagram page became a true sensation thanks to her picture-perfect cupcakes that look just like real flowers.

Kerry’s Bouqcakes was founded by Kerry Roberts, who was always an avid baker, but it took some time before she turned her passion into a small business. After giving birth to her two children, she started baking more regularly. After a friend suggested that she make it a full-time job, the idea for Kerry’s Bouqcakes was born.

On her official website, Roberts explains that she loves to “bake fresh, preservative-free cupcakes that [she] would be happy to give to [her] own children and then transform them into floral masterpieces.” She’s been doing this for so long that she even has her favorite buttercream flowers—she’s a huge fan of roses and also enjoys working with pastels, pinks, and peaches.

In addition to creating some of the most stunning floral cupcakes that you’ll ever see, Roberts is committed to teaching others to do the same. She offers online tutorials and workshops to everyone who wants to learn the secrets of her craft.

Food art experienced a true boom in recent years, largely thanks to the artists capable of making it look incredibly real. Julia Stankevych is one of those artists, and her oil paintings of delicious treats look just as good as their real-life contra parts.

Stankevych is a 24-year-old contemporary artist who hails from Ukraine, and she made quite a splash online since she started sharing her work with the world. She gained over 160,000 followers on Instagram, and some of her videos attracted millions of views on this social media platform.

Stankevych is usually painting on newspapers, using gesso to prepare the canvas for her impasto paintings of food. From ice cream and pancakes to seafood, fruits, and veggies, no food is off limits for this talented artist, and it’s not a coincidence she opted for this subject matter.

“I work primarily in oil paint, sometimes to find the brightest of colors in life, but at other times to express shapes in the gloom and the dark… I love to depict food, to convey its taste, smell, and sensation through paints and canvas. I try to create an image that will evoke only positive emotions,” she explains on her Etsy page.

Exercising and sticking to a healthy lifestyle can be pretty demanding. This is why many people turn to the practice of “cheat meals,” which can make the entire process a bit easier. Cheat meals allow you to get some break from your regime while also allowing you to stay on track towards achieving your goal, whatever it might be.

Since cheat meals are usually limited to one per week, the decision on how to use this opportunity can be quite hard for some people. This is why the makers of “Weighting With Friends”, a bi-weekly comic strip about the lifts and dips of healthy living, decided to share their favorite cheat meals with social media followers in the form of cool illustrations.

The artworks not only come with an appetizing drawing of a cheat meal but also contain all the nutritional values that might interest people who are careful about what they eat. This includes calories, protein, fat, and carbs count.

The selection of meals is quite diverse, containing fast food favorites like hamburgers and pizza but also staples of Asian cuisine and a tempting selection of desserts. This ensures that everyone can find something that works out for them and can help them remain persistent in their bid to live healthier.

Who doesn’t love good food art? You can spend some time admiring it and then have a tasty meal after.

Harley Langberg is a New York City-based food artist who found his passion in recreating pop culture characters, animals, objects, and more on his plate. Using all sorts of food, ranging from veggies to bacon, Langberg so far constructed realistic depictions of Mufasa from Lion King, Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus, Jason from Friday the 13th, and Chuckie from Rugrats, to name a few.

“The ingredients used in his pieces are carefully selected, spanning both the food pyramid and the globe,” the bio on his website states.

Langberg has been involved in food art for the past nine years. It all started when he was out shopping for groceries at a local market and noticed a food art photo. He was captivated by it and decided to try creating some himself the same night. And he never stopped.

Since making his first food art piece, Langberg perfected his technique, gained a significant social media following, and worked on projects for various companies. The list of his former clients is impressive and includes the likes of Chili’s, Food Network, Billboard, and Kroger.

During the 2020 lockdown, New Zealand artist Devoney Scarfe found herself with plenty of free time on her hands. So, she decided to test her baking skills by making some pies. The activity turned out to be so fun that she couldn’t stop.

Eventually, this part-time creative director would make more complex pies, resulting in a passion project that persisted even after the lockdown ended. We already showcased some of her creations a while back, and you absolutely loved them. Considering that Scarfe recently started focusing on “portrait pies,“ we figured we could give you an update on her new project.

“Baking is a way to nurture my creativity and to connect with people – both around the world and down the road,” she explains. “It’s also a bloody good excuse to eat pies!”

Lithuanian artist Jolita Vaitkute is known for using everyday objects and food to create intriguing artworks and installations. Recently, she has been sharing works from her newest project, “Hungry for Love,” which sees her creating portraits of people kissing entirely out of vegetables.

What makes these works even more special is the fact that they are inspired by real life. Each veggie portrait actually tells a love story of two people that Vaitkute came in contact with.

Check out more of Langberg’s food creations below.

Using her artistic background, she manages to recreate the faces of pop culture characters and celebrities on her pies with impressive attention to detail. So far, she has made pies dedicated to Santa Claus, rapper Notorious B.I.G., painter Vincent Van Gogh, and June from the hit series The Handmaid’s Tale, among others.

“Baking is a way to nurture my creativity and to connect with people – both around the world and down the road,” she explains. “It’s also a bloody good excuse to eat pies!”

Continue scrolling to see more of these fantastic portrait pies. But beware, since they also look so tasty that you might have to make a pie run immediately after.
