The post Ben Young’s Glass and Concrete Sculptures Capture the Magic of the Ocean appeared first on https://everydaymonkey.com.
]]>Young uses glass to form a body of water, translucent but captivating, inviting but intimidating. That body of water surrounds concrete shores, islands, and icebergs, creating mesmerizing scenes of seascapes that you can’t take your eyes off of.
“I love the contrast between the two materials and feel they really complement each other,” Young explained in a recent chat with Habitus Living. “It has allowed me to expand the subject matter of my work and has added a whole new skill set to produce a piece, I really enjoy the modeling and mould making elements that are now part of the process.”
Young started creating these sculptures after years of working as a boat builder. He takes a unique approach to the design of his pieces, doing everything by hand, from sketches to calculating dimensions. While this drags out the process, it also helps the artist to properly call his works hand-made, from start to finish.
Young’s glass and concrete seascapes have been exhibited across the world while also finding their place in private collections. You can check out more of them on his social media or by scrolling below.

]]>This approach gives Op de Beeck’s sculptures an entirely different dimension. They seem like they are frozen in time, waiting for something to wake them up and bring them back to life.
According to Op de Beeck, the unique look of his sculptures was actually a coincidence. He was trying to make a concrete-like piece but struggled to get the right shade. This prompted him to experiment with various coating techniques until he discovered that sanding the coating actually produced the effect he was aiming for; “a ‘skin’ that reflects the light very tenderly”.
“In my view, it gives a special aura to the depicted, something that abstracts the figurative forms into a kind of silent world. The absence of color puts the focus on the light,” he shared in a recent interview.
Hans Op de Beeck’s works have been showcased in galleries, museums, and art festivals around the world. The artist also frequently shares his new pieces on social media. Check out some of them below.

]]>The post Jonathan Hateley Creates Unique Bronze Dancing Sculptures appeared first on https://everydaymonkey.com.
]]>Hateley’s distinctive style originated from his wish to create a sculpture that would have a reflection of nature on its surface. Soon, those reflections became more intricate and detailed, leading him to make the nature elements a standard feature in his works.
“This has evolved over time from the shapes of leaves to fingerprints and cherry blossoms to plant cells,” the artist shared in a recent chat with Colossal.
According to Hateley’s website, his creative process is complex and detailed. After forming the initial idea as a drawing, he creates a metal frame and shapes the sculpture in clay. He then makes a mold and casts the sculpture in bronze. One sculpture usually takes around six months to be completed.
Hateley started his career as a model maker and effects specialist for TV and musicals. He decided to focus on his own practice in 2003 and has since established himself as a respected name in the art world. His sculptures are highly sought after among collectors, and every new edition quickly sells out.

]]>To enhance the effect of his artworks, Lu pays close attention to details. He includes unpredictable forms, droplets trying to run away, and surface that reflects the light and slightly changes the appearance of the sculpture depending on the angle the viewer takes.
These intricate sculptures start their life as a plaster base on which Lu lays out the laser-cut pieces of metal. He then uses heat to melt the metal and connect the pieces in a way that gives them a sense of fluidity.
Speaking about the inspiration for his water sculptures with EuroNews, Lu says that they have originated from his observation of the fundamental concept of “stillness.”
“The act of walking implies moving towards a destination: while the character zhi evokes a sense of movement, it also encompasses the notion of stillness, as we stop walking, once we reach our destination,” he explains.

]]>Most of Verginer’s works feature the interaction of child figures in interaction or fusion with natural elements like branches and leaves. This includes a girl that has branches growing out of her hair, a boy wearing a crown of leaves, and a child holding a small tree on a leash.
According to the artist, his fascination with nature and use of wood as the primary material is the result of spending most of his life in the Dolomites area of Northern Italy.
“Living in an area where the beauty of nature is really dominant, it was obvious that one of my themes would be overexploitation and destruction of nature,” Verginer shared in an interview with City Code magazine. “Had I lived in a big city, my expression would have definitely been much different.”
Verginer’s intriguing sculptures have been exhibited in museums and galleries in various European countries, including Denmark, Germany, Belgium, and Italy. He was also a featured artist at several editions of Context Art Miami art fair.

]]>Lindner’s creations resemble a bunch of thick intertwined vines that look like they could soon come to life and start moving. Besides their unusual form, these sculptures are also unique thanks to their vibrant and playful colors that captivate attention.
According to Linder, her art explores the relationship between nature’s creations and human-made shapes and forms. The underlying idea is to combine “the images of vegetation, the animal or the mineral world, the body as if everything was made of the same substance.” Her goal is to “trigger” a visual confusion for the viewer and spark their imagination.
“Everything connects and mixes: the inside, the outside, the physical and the psychic, the palpable and the impalpable, the liquid and the solid, the animal, the vegetative and human,” she explains on her official website.
Aside from her oddly satisfying colorful sculptures, Claire Lindner has several other projects through which she gives an abstract view of the world that surrounds us. Her works are frequently centerpieces of gallery exhibits and she also regularly shares them on her social media. Check out more below.

]]>In order to make this project happen, he had to combine art with science. The goal of this exhibit is to protect the environment, so Taylor’s sculptures are designed to keep the balance of marine life. They stand around two meters apart and are made from eco-friendly concrete. They won’t affect the underwater environment in any negative way, and instead only serve to provide a better environment for underwater life.
It took a long time to finish this project, which started in 2017, and the result is worth it. This unique underwater museum is simply amazing!
“The new works are all based on people from the local community. The split mask is a metaphor for the ocean, the surface is resolute, defiant, and endless. However, beneath it is fragile and finely balanced,” the artist writes on Instagram. Follow him there to see future updates!

]]>According to Lyons, his practice is very much tied to his background. “I basically grew up being surrounded by found object art,” he relayed once in an interview with Hammermarks. “My father is a found object sculptor as well.” In fact, some of Lyons’ earliest memories are of “Junk” hunting trips with his father at local dumps and along roadsides.
Inspired by the materials themselves, which form the basis of his work, Lyons’ work is also a reflection of his love of the natural world. “Along with my desire for the arts I have also always been into the outdoors,” he notes. “My childhood was also spent camping, hiking, and observing nature. In fact, I almost ended up in Alaska as a bush pilot and going to school for wildlife biology.”
These days, his observations of the natural world show up in his subject matter. A simple spoon forms the body of a rainbow trout; a discarded children’s toy becomes the foundation for a moose; horseshoes transform into armadillos. According to Lyons, the organic nature of many of these man-made objects lends itself to the organic figures he creates.
The sculptures themselves are made primarily wood and metal, augmented with his found objects. “I began my career using mostly rusted and distressed items which gave them a very vintage style,” he notes. This vintage style adds a steam-punk air to his unique creations, blurring the line between machines and animals.
