Most people don’t think that bikes are suitable for long journeys. But don’t tell that to Long Beach, California native Liam Garner. The teenager recently completed an impressive 527-day trip that saw him go from Alaska to Argentina on a bike.
Garner is an experienced cyclist who previously made the trip on his bike from Los Angeles to San Francisco. But after graduating from high school, he decided to take on an even larger challenge and take a bike ride from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, the northernmost road-accessible point in the U.S., to Ushuaia, Argentina, South America’s southernmost point.
While traveling across the U.S., Mexico, Central America, and South America, Garner shared updates about the journey on his TikTok. As he went by, the teenager managed to amass a big social media following, with more people getting invested in his challenge and wanting to see will he make it.
Garner encountered a lot of challenges, getting mugged several times and having to spend time in the hospital. However, he never thought about giving up once. He reached Ushuaia on January 10, 2023, bringing his remarkable journey to an end.
But this wasn’t the end of Garner’s adventures. He and his girlfriend Chloe, who joined him in Argentina, decided to return home by backpacking.
“We were hoping to make it home in July for summer,” he told CNN. “But it’s open ended. We still have about four to five months, and that’s plenty of time backpacking home.”
