This Impressive Pine Cone Sculpture Was Made Out of Car Hoods

The 2023 edition of Lollapalooza Argentina saw performances from some of today’s biggest music stars, including Billie Eilish, Drake, and Rosalia. But the event wasn’t all about great music shows. The festivalgoers also had an opportunity to also witness some impressive art installations.

The talk of the festival was a massive sculpture named Capot. Designed and built by Buenos Aires-based Estudio Normal, the sculpture consisted of 95 used car hoods that were arranged in the shape of a pine cone.

According to the studio, their primary goal was to examine the relationship humans have with the objects that surround them, specifically cars and their hoods.

“We all use a bonnet from time to time as a seat to wait for someone to leave a recital, as a table to snack and have a drink on the go, or as a support to break the rhythm of the street and lean on to text in peace,” the studio explained. “Some, more dreamy, use the still-warm bonnets to stretch out to see the stars, bathe, get intimate, and perhaps sleep for a while.”

The studio intends for Capot to be the first entry in their new series Autopartes, which will explore Argentina’s automotive industry.

Capot turned out to be a big hit among the festivalgoers. The audience used it as a resting site between shows, a meeting place, or would just come to admire it. Check out more of the photos below.
