The Friday feeling. 😍 These pics were taken after me & Jimmy’s three stop date night last weekend. ⬇ ⁣ ⁣ First, we met my parents at an outside table at @moonshinephilly for apps & drinks. 🌤 I love their food & we have the same sweet, great server every time we go. ⁣ ⁣ Next? We Ubered over to *finally* use our membership at @messinasocialclub. I LOVED the space. 🤩 We sat at the bar and got some more apps (delicious) & enjoyed chatting with bartender Seamus, who whipped up some equally delicious bevs. 🥃⁣ ⁣ Since it was still early-ish, we tried our luck with the line at @hopsinglaundromat, and made it there at the exact right time. I’ll never get over how special the drinks are there, it’s really the best place. 🍸⁣ ⁣ After one final drink, Jim snapped this gem while we were waiting for our ride home. 📸 It was the kind of city night I’m most thankful for – just bopping from place to place – finally trying new places & visiting your all time faves. ⁣ ⁣ I hope you get into similar adventures this weekend, my loves! ✨⁣ ⁣ Shop my outfit (top is available in neon pink 😍 & these are my favvvv @madewell jeans!) with @liketoknow.it ! http://liketk.it/2F5KY #liketkit #LTKsalealert #LTKcurves ⁣ ⁣ #whyilovephilly #phillyblogger #phlbloggers #curvystyle #mystylishcurves #phillyphilly #datenightoutfit #visitphilly #philadelphia_citylife #ilovephilly #phillylove #targetstyle

Emily, known online as herphilly, is a Philadelphia-based marketing specialist and a lifestyle blogger. Sharp was always physically bigger than the people around her, and growing up in a beach town in Jersey, she quickly came to believe that she was the anomaly in a world of skinny people. It was only when she left for college that she realized that there was more than that to the world, and that fashion isn’t only for skinny people.

Her first steps in the plus-size industry weren’t as a blogger, but behind the scenes, working for a fashion company for plus sizes. That’s where she was first introduced to plus-sized influencers, like Gabbi Gregg and Nicolette Mason.

It wasn’t that long ago that self-made fashion icons and businesswomen weren’t called influencers – they were simply bloggers. But that’s what sparked Emily’s passion: She finally had a model to follow, women who didn’t apologize for their size nor their love of fashion.

She started her own blog and social media accounts where she posts updates on her life, her fashion choices, food, and travel. The blog has helped her develop her career as a digital marketing specialist, allowing her to collaborate with all sorts of brands, but more than anything, it has taught her the most important lessons of her life: no matter what size you are, you deserve to love yourself.

We could all you more self-love and acceptance. Check out this influencer below.

Not so long ago, fashion was considered a skinny-person business. The catwalks and magazine covers were filled with super-slim models, actresses had their diet and size monitored by paparazzi and gossip columnists, and designers made clothes for sizes 0 through 10 at best. And then came Nicolette Mason.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BwR8wvYlx1R/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Mason is just one of a series of plus size fashion bloggers who have revolutionized the fashion industry by simply refusing to fit into its rigid beauty standard. Born in Los Angeles in the eighties, Nicolette grew up in a time when being skinny equaled beauty. As a bigger girl, she was taught that she didn’t belong in the fashion world.

But that didn’t stop her. She got her degree in fashion from Parsons School of Design and then started her blog while looking for her first grown-up job. That blog exploded, gaining a massive following from all around the world and launching Nicolette into stardom.

Nicolette has become one of the most recognizable figures not only in plus-size fashion, but in fashion in general. She’s written for top fashion magazines, worked with fashion brands and launched her consulting business, all thanks to her unwillingness to listen to naysayers. Today, Nicolette is an inspiration for women and girls everywhere – proving that style and fashion have nothing to do with size.

Gevinson broke into the fashion industry in 2008, at the tender age of 11. The preteen was so fascinated by the world of fashion, that she started her own blog – Style Rookie. She used the blog as a creative outlet, writing about style as self-expression. The fresh voice attracted tens of thousands of readers, making Tavi an influencer when influencing was barely a thing.

By the time she was a sophomore in high school, she had launched her e-magazine, Rookie, where she published articles, essays, interviews, advice columns and so on. She became a voice for a generation of young girls who wanted to express themselves through style.

That was all years ago, though, and since then, Tavi has grown and evolved as a person and as a career-woman. Today she is a writer, fashion icon, influencer, activist and actor. Everything she does today still has the same optimism and enthusiasm of her early days as a blogger. She may have started young, but she’s still growing and evolving. We’re dying to see where she’d go next.

Yesterday marked 10 years since I started ye olde blog, Style Rookie. I’m so so grateful for all the opportunities to express myself that have since come my way, and for the audience that’s been there each time. When I was in middle school, I thought I’d never find like-minded people; once that happened, I thought every trip to New York or writing assignment would be the last. Now, I am fortunate enough to get to make a living doing what I love; to regularly soak up culture in NY, where I live; and to have mentors, friends & readers who are constantly changing the way I think. THANK YOU for making it possible. Here are random reflections + a photo for each year, starting with when I copied Comme des Garcons slogan makeup on my face like it was cheek stain. Ages 12-15 by me, 16+ @petrafcollins. In 2008, I thought I didn’t like writing; in 2010, I realized I’d been doing it every day for two years; in 2018, it’s how I know who I am. In 2006, when my dad came home from New York with a ticket stub from The Producers on Broadway, I examined it in awe; now, I get to see theater regularly and even be in it. It’s a completely different way of experiencing time from writing or working on the internet, and I love having all three. Until recently, I thought I knew what made someone a “real” writer, editor, actor, CEO, and that I wasn’t one. Now, most sects of media/entertainment have been so shaken up by technology and by #MeToo’s examination of power that the gatekeeper archetype and old markers of success feel pretty outdated. This is thrilling. In 2008, the fashion industry was worried blogs would replace magazines; by 2018, the real threat turned out to be social media. In 2011, I saw @rookiemag as a response to most mainstream teen and women’s magazines; in 2018, I’m more worried about technology. I’m also deeply thankful that the Rookie community has proved that a mission-based, audience-first philosophy has more longevity than clickbait. And I can’t wait to be able to share Rookie’s next manifestation with you. I used to have trouble smiling in photos; this is still the case. From ages 11-20, I was a person; at 21, I am a defaced subway poster for Young Sheldon.

The popular attitudes toward fashion lie on a spectrum between absolute apathy to vague, general interest. Not many people live for fashion. Not like Susie Lau does, anyway.

Susie Lau, AKA Susie Bubble, is one of the top fashion bloggers in Britain, though she didn’t tread the traditional path for fashion-industry folks: She wasn’t a model or a designer, she didn’t study fashion or journalism which would have lead her to jobs at fashion magazines, and she didn’t actually try to make her way up the ladder of the industry. She simply liked fashion.

In 2016 she started her fashion blog, Style Bubble, purely for fun. But her colorful style and eye for quality designs soon made her a star of the British street fashion scene.

Today, Susie is one of the most well-known names in the British fashion industry and worldwide. She has almost 500k followers on Instagram, and she’s worked for magazines, collaborated with big fashion brands and helped further the careers of young, talented designers.

It’s easy to see why she’s so successful: Her style isn’t about pleasing anybody else. She dresses up for her own enjoyment, and has developed over time a fun, whimsical style. She really does live for fashion, and she makes us want to do the same.

It’s so easy sometimes to forget what a beautiful world we live in. We spend most of our lives in big cities, cooped up indoors. We may have a pet and a few potted plants; the really lucky ones have a garden. But there’s so much nature out there, and it’s beautiful! Artist Asia Orlando tries to bring back some of that beauty back into our lives through her art.

Orlando is a digital illustrator based in Amsterdam. She creates gorgeous digital paintings of people, animals and nature. “I enjoy translating everyday life observations into colorful language of art,” she writes on her YouTube channel, ” My work is greatly inspired by nature; animals and plants are motives I just love exploring.”

And that is exactly what she does. Her work is full of bright, beautiful colors, and depicts scenes from the jungle as well as more urban environments. She draws panthers, tigers and huge forest trees, but also dogs, cats and potted plants. It’s so charming because it’s so natural and relaxed: The people and animals in her drawings aren’t doing anything special, they’re just going about their day, and that’s the whole beauty of it.

Orlando’s drawings can teach us a lot about nature and about ourselves. They remind us that those are not two separate things; that we used to be a part of nature, and can still be a part of it again.

What’s fun about TV and movies is that it’s all make-belief; writers and actors can make stuff up in a way that would never work in real life but is perfect of the show. Think about, say, food on TV – remember Spongebob’s krabby patty? What about the Sloppy Jessica from Brooklyn Nine-Nine? What about Bubba’s shrimp recipes from Forrest Gump? These crazy food would never work in real life… right?

Well, that’s what Andrew Rea, the creator behind the YouTube channel Binging With Babish, set out to find out. Rea used to be a filmmaker, and cooking was something he’d do in his spare time. But then in 2016 he decided to combine his two passions.

Andrew wanted to answer a very specific question: what does the food we see in film and television tastes like? Is it any good? Are the recipes completely made up, or can they be used to create something edible?

And that’s what he does on his channel. In every episode he takes one meal from one TV show or movie and tries to recreate that. That can be a difficult task, since the shows don’t usually hand out a recipe – there’s a lot of observation and a lot of guesswork involved in recreating each dish. The next step is to taste the creation and see if it’s okay, amazing or terrible – and if it can be improved.

Andrew’s novel idea and insane execution have turned him into one of YouTube’s biggest celebrity chefs. Today he has over half a million subscribers that follow his funny culinary experiments. So whether you’re a foodie or a movie addict – you should check out his channel. We promise, it’ll be worth your time.

Being an old dog in a loving home is an absolute paradise, but many senior dogs don’t get to spend their golden years in a loving home. Many are kicked out once the veterinary bills start piling up, or they don’t get adopted as puppies and grow up in shelters. That’s where Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary comes in.

The dog sanctuary is located in Nashville, Tennessee, and is dedicated to helping senior dogs live out their final years in comfort, surrounded by people who love them. Unlike many other sanctuaries, Old Friends doesn’t try to get their dogs adopted. The dogs either stay at the sanctuary or they’re take by “forever foster homes” – families that live within a 100-mile radius of the sanctuary and take the dogs in, while the sanctuary still pays for the medical bills and general upkeep.

The sanctuary was started by Zina and Michael Goodin, a retired couple who wanted to do meaningfuil volunteer work. After learning about the high concentration of dogs in shelters and high euthanasia rates in ther states, they wanted to help those senior dogs who don’t have chance of leaving the shelter with a family.

Today, Old Friends has over 100 dogs, and a massive social media following, with almost 2 million followers on Facebook and 150k on Instagram. They’re fans can follow the old dogs’ daily routine as they nap in the sun, play with each other and get belly rubs. The Old Friends dog prove to us all that old dogs are just as fun and loving companions as any dog.

It’s a well-known fact that people today don’t really know how to make anything. Most of what we need is widely available, and when one item breaks down, we go and buy another. But there are still people who like to make everything they own – like Cristiana Felgueiras.

Cris is a multidisciplinary artist from Porto, Portugal. She had a degree in fine arts with a specialty in sculpting. But she’s also an amazing handywoman who knows her way around a drill, and one of her passion projects is her YouTube Channel, Get Hands Dirty, where she builds furniture, playing instruments and everyday items from scratch.

Cristiana has been making things since she can remember herself and even worked with power tool at the age of eleven – without her parent’s knowledge, of course. But it was only during her degree hat she developed a passion for woodworking when she was looking something online and somehow found a few woodworking channels on YouTube.

Cristiana has been building furniture ever since, learning all she needed to know from other YouTubers and sites across the web. She’s been sharing her creations on YouTube since 2016 and has done everything from lightboxes to full kitchens. While working with wood isn’t for everyone, it’s always fun to watch her as she takes stacks of MDF and transforms them into the stuff we usually buy at Ikea. But maybe her videos will inspire you to try some woodworking yourself?

If you love art and history, you’ll love Nerikomi, a 1,300 years old pottery style originating in Japan.

Unlike other forms of pottery, Nerikomi doesn’t involve painting over the pots once they’re dry. Instead, Nerikomi potters stack up slabs of painted clay one on top of another to create patterns in the clay itself. Once the slabs are stacked together, they’re sliced into tiny slabs to reveal the pattern.

The art is stunning, but it’s also more than a thousand years old, which might make it less appealing to younger generations. That’s why Japanese potter Tomoro Mizuno is giving his Nerikomi pots a modern twist.

Tomoro is a third-generation potter – he was taught pottery and Nerikomi by his father, who in turn learned it for his father. But Tomoro is a young artist with a fresh perspective that he tries to bring into his art. That’s why alongside traditional Nerikomi patterns he’s also making pots with robots, cute animals and funny characters patterns. He’s trying to create pottery that people of his generation and young would appreciate.

And he’s doing something right, because his pottery is incredibly popular across Japan, and he has a huge following on social media, with 175k followers. But that’s not surprising, because his pottery is a real eye-candy, and anybody can find a design of his they love.

Sometimes life lead us to our destinantion in unexpected paths. Abbey Sharp’s path was totally unexpected, and not always easy – but today she’s right where she needs to be.

Abbey is a dietitian based in Canada, but she’s so much more than your average dietitian. She’s a social media personality with her own YouTube channel, a published author and the face behind the lifestyle brand Abbey’s Kitchen. She’s dedicated her time and career educating her audience about maintaining a balanced, well-rounded diet while also enjoying your food.

But her own relationship with food and dieting wasn’t always so balanced.

When Abbey was in high school, she started eating clean, and was praised for her healthy eating habits and attention to her health. In reality, her diet was harming her, Instead of feeling better, she was feeling worse. The diet was darining her energy and affecting her mood. So she decided to learn more about her body and how it functions, and signed up for degrees in nutrition.

That’s when she learned that feeding your body the absolute essentials isn’t all you need to do to keep it healthy. On the contrary, sticking to a restrictive diet can cause a lot of harm both mentally and physically. And that’s the message she wants to spread: eating healthy also means enjoying your food. So she teaches others how to make meals that are not only healthy, but also fun and delicious. And that’s a message we can all get behind.
