If you enjoy retro pieces of clothing that will make you feel like you’ve stepped inside a time machine, French Meadows is about to become your new favorite brand. They specialize in making beautiful corsets that allow you to transform into a modern-day Marie Antoinette.
French Meadows was founded by Rebeka Walker, who learned the basics of corset-making while studying fashion design in college. Corsets were always on her mind from that point on, so she continued making them and eventually decided to sell them on Etsy in 2018.
“As interest in my work started to develop, corset-making quickly took over my life. Many late nights and weekends were spent at my sewing machine, and the endless rolls of fabric stashed around my living room were constantly outgrowing their space,” she explains on her official website.
The demand for her corsets was so high that she decided to leave her full-time job and focus on running French Meadows alone. She handles pretty much every aspect of work at this company, from marketing, research, and shipping to designing, sewing, and styling.
French Meadows designs are inspired by Renaissance fashion, and wearing them feels like traveling centuries into the past—but that’s not even the best thing about them. French Meadows also happens to be a slow fashion brand, and all products are sustainably made in Portland, Oregon.
