Most people leave their pets at home when they’re traveling, but not the owners of Gary the Cat. This rescue cat became a true Instagram sensation once he started meowntaineering and exploring the Canadian Rockies with his owners.
When Gary’s owner James met him for the first time, exploring mountains was the last thing on his mind. Gary just went through serious surgery to treat his broken left hip, and he can’t jump very high to this day.
James and his partner moved to the Canadian Rockies after adopting Gary and decided to explore the mountains by his side after he showed a keen interest in going outside. Since there are a lot of predators in the area, they felt it would be better to explore the great outdoors by Gary’s side than deal with the risk of him lurking outside on his own.
This turned out to be the right choice and Gary transformed from a timid little kitty to a confident cat who inspired many people to explore the great outdoors with their pets.
“It’s taken several months but Gary’s finally figured out the point of hiking trails and now whenever he sees one, will follow it… When he gets tired of walking, he’ll stop and meow at my feet so that I’ll pick him up and carry him,” James told Bored Panda.
