Grad Student Asked to Pay an $11,900 Bill After Failing to Return Overdue Books to Library

Students have a lot of things to worry about, so it is understandable that returning books to the library in time is not on the list of their priorities. But as it turns out, some libraries can be quite strict about this.

TikToker Hannah, aka @historyhan, who is also a grad student, recently shared a video in which she detailed how her library asked her to pay an $11,900 bill after she failed to return overdue books.

The clip opens up with an email that Hannah received from the library staff that notified her she owes them $11,900 for “119 Lost Books.” It cuts to the scene of piled-up books that explains the books are not lost and that the TikToker is just “hoarding them” until she finishes her dissertation.

The video got a lot of attention on social media, prompting Hannah to share a few more details about the story in the comments section. According to her, all of the books in question “came due at once.” She also shared that it was an automatic mail that notified her about the bill.

The story has a happy ending as Hannah won’t have to pay the bill and will still get to use the books for her dissertation.

“I renewed them all,” she shared in one of the comments.
