Illustrator Uses Only One Color To Create Gritty Art

Not every kind of art is considered “beautiful”. This is in no way a bad thing, because contrast is one of the most important foundations of our very existence on earth. Without the dark, one cannot appreciate the light. Without silence, one cannot appreciate the presence of musical notes. And finally, without gritty-looking art, one cannot appreciate art that looks more flowery and glamorous. For this reason, the art of Flor de Ceres is just as important as any other, and it deserves to be highlighted.

Ceres does all kinds of work, but one thing you’ll notice is that it’s often very monotonous. She often chooses only one color in each of her projects, whether it be a red-only depiction of a mountain, a green-only portrait of a man relaxing on his couch, or a black-only picture of two hands handling a compass.

But in addition to the colors chosen (or lack thereof), we’d also like to point out that Ceres’ choice of brush is intentional to her purpose as well. To that end, she doesn’t seem to ever use a paintbrush, because she’s all about that pencil or pen. This too, adds to the gritty nature of her work, and we’re completely here for it.
