Melissa Castrillon Has Developed an Art Style That is Truly Unique

Artist Melissa Castrillon works as a full-time freelance illustrator and author. Her previous projects include book covers, picture books, surface designs, print projects, etc. She combines hand drawing and digital media to create various effects that make her style original and distinctive.

“Basically I try and create each image as I would a screen print, with a limited color palette and drawn in B&W layers with a mechanical pencil,” she told Inky Goodness in an interview. She then scans each layer separately and uses Photoshop to add color. After layering them together in Photoshop, they produce the final image.

Thanks to her amazing work, Castrillon has nearly 42,000 Instagram followers. As her bio on Pickled Ink reads, “With a particular passion for print, pattern and punchy color combos, Melissa’s work has lent itself to a wide range of projects, from textiles, book covers, anthologies, editorial and picture books.”
