No More Kings and Queens: This Woman Creates Gender Neutral Cards

Are you tired of the old traditional playing cards? Do you think the King, Queen, and Jack cards are outdated? Well, then you might want to check out Indy Mellink’s gender-neutral cards.

This Dutch forensic psychology graduate recently decided to create her own playing cards that challenge the standard hierarchy and are all-inclusive.

In Melink’s deck, the King, Queen, and Jack cards are replaced by the precious metal hierarchy. The gold card is now the strongest in the deck, followed by silver and bronze.

“If we have this hierarchy that the king is worth more than the queen then this subtle inequality influences people in their daily life because it’s just another way of saying ‘hey, you’re less important’,” she said in a recent interview.

After creating the deck, Mellink introduced it to her friends and family, who loved the idea and wanted one for themselves. The news quickly got out, and people around the world started making orders.

She sold around 1,500 packs by now while getting offers from game shops to include them into their offer.
