Shaza Wajjokh Turns Her Darkest Thoughts Into Beautiful Illustrations

Art can be a great outlet for dealing with our darkest thoughts, and Shaza Wajjokh seems to agree. This talented artist is using her abstract illustration to deal with her inner demons and she’s turning her emotions—both good and bad—into mesmerizing works of art.

Wajjokh is an illustrator of Syrian origin, who’s currently based in Russia. Since joining Instagram in 2015, she shared hundreds of her illustrations with the world, and her creations attracted over 150,000 followers to her page.

Wajjokh’s art significantly evolved over the years, but one thing remained the same. She uses a technique that combines traditional and digital drawing, often putting female protagonists front and center, ranging from sensual and confident women who aren’t afraid to take up space in the world to shy and insecure young girls who are yet to find their way.

Wajjokh told ArtUpon that her work is mostly inspired by the life around her: people, emotions, and little daily stories. She’s trying to build a safe place for herself through her art by showing the women’s inner world in a space of fantasies and imagination. Many of her illustrations are captioned with quotes that inspired them, giving them an extra layer of meaning that will make you think and reflect.
