Students in the Philippines Get Hilariously Creative After Being Told to Wear “Anti-Cheating” Hats

One professor from Legazpi City, Philippines, recently came up with a genius idea in an attempt to discourage her students from cheating. Mary Joy Mandane-Ortiz, who teaches mechanical engineering at Bicol University College of Engineering, told the students to make their own “anti-cheating” hats and wear them to the exam.

As expected, students took Mandane-Ortiz’s instruction a bit broader than she probably intended and they really got creative with the designs of the hat. Some decided to make hats using egg boxes, others covered their heads with sheets in a ghost-like manner, and one student even came wearing a trash can on his head.

Proud of her students and the way they interpreted her instructions, Mandane-Ortiz decided to snap a few photos and upload them on her Facebook profile. It didn’t take long before the hilarious photos started making their way around the internet, causing both the professor and the students to go viral.

In a recent chat with BBC, Mandane-Ortiz revealed that she thought the “anti-cheating” hats would be a good way to keep “integrity and honesty” on exams. She got the idea after learning about “ear flaps,” which is a popular anti-cheating method in Thailand. The students are required to wear sheets of paper on each side of their heads to block their vision.
