If one couple manages to complete their goal, we will not be hearing “Last Christmas” by Wham! on the radio or in the shopping malls during the holiday season anymore. Tomas and Hannah Mazetti started a fundraiser to buy the rights to “Last Christmas” with the intention of destroying the song.

According to Tomas and Hannah, they are tired of hearing the song, and most of their friends share the same sentiment. Talking about their dislike for George Michael-penned tune, they got the idea to organize a unique campaign that might help them do something about it.

So far, the couple has raised around $62,000 from donors from around the world, but they still have a long way to go. The rights for “Last Christmas,” currently owned by Warner Chappell Music UK, are estimated to be worth in the range of $20 million.

In case Tomas and Hannah manage to get the necessary funding and buy the song, they will take off from all streaming platforms and dump the master recording in a nuclear waste site, “where it’ll rest for at least 2 million years.”

“I’m sorry, but this is the way it has to be,” Hannah explained. “We don’t hate Wham!, but we hate this song.”
