Viral Video Shows How McRibs are Made, and You Probably Won’t Like It

McDonald’s recently announced that it is bringing its iconic McRib sandwich for a farewell tour in 2022. Considered discontinued since 2005, the fan-favorite menu item has been brought back for a limited run more than a few times, but it appears this year’s return will be the last one.

Now, McDonald’s is probably expecting its customers to wait in line to get the McRib since it might never be available again. But if we are to judge by the mood on social media, that could easily not be the case. And a viral video that shows how McRib is made might be the reason why.

The clip, shared by entertainment and pop culture expert Mike Sington, shows a McDonald’s worker preparing a McRib from scratch. The process starts with frozen bricks of grey meat that are placed on a grill.

After getting browned on both sides, the meat bricks are then dipped in a bath of barbecue sauce to finish the cooking process. To make the sandwich, the employee takes out the meat from the BBQ bath and places it in a bun that was previously garnished with some onions and pickles.

McRib was first introduced by McDonald’s in 1981 but ended up being discontinued four years later due to poor sales. It was brought back in 1989 and had a much longer second run, staying on menus until 2005 in the United States. It is currently a mainstay at McDonald’s locations in Germany and Luxembourg.
