Artist Crafts Sneakers Using Natural Materials Like Tree Bark and Fungi

We already had the pleasure of introducing you to impressive tree-knot sculptures from French artist Christophe Guinet aka Monsieur Plant. However, this is far from being his only project worth mentioning. This talented creative also crafts sneakers out of natural materials.

Guinet’s most recent “line” of footwear is titled “Mushroom Party,” and it sees the artist using tree bark, moss, and mushrooms to create “sneakers straight out of a magical and magical universe.” They were inspired by the abundance and diversity of fungi in the countryside of the Breton region.

“Fungi fulfill essential ecological roles in natural ecosystems, without fungi, trees and plants would quickly die, suffocated by their own waste,” shares Monsieur Plant on his official website.

Mushroom Party follows the artist’s previous series of “natural” sculptures inspired by sneakers. This included Nike sneakers covered with flower petals and Merrell hiking shoes covered with grass and soil.

“Monsieur Plant likes to play with the codes we like by using symbols such as sneakers to give them a natural and ethical twist as if to say that nature will always triumph over man and his modes of consumption,” the artist adds.

Like most of his works, Mushroom Party sneakers and Monsieur Plant’s other footwear sculptures are expected to make rounds in galleries across France and beyond. Until they reach your city, you can check them out by scrolling below.
