The post Explore Belonging Through Minimalist Paintings: Liz Flores’ “Ni De Aquí, Ni De Allá” Series appeared first on https://everydaymonkey.com.
]]>The series was inspired by Flores’ own experiences as a first-generation American with Cuban and Mexican parents, and by her recent trips to Cuba and Mexico, where she visited with family members and explored themes of belonging and cultural identity. The paintings, which are on display at Vertical Gallery in Chicago through the end of the year, feature abstractly painted figures whose bodies bend and join in graceful compositions, and whose elongated limbs and hand gestures imply movement.
Some of the paintings also include personal references to Flores’ connections with Cuban culture. Prints from Flores’ collaboration with The Jaunt, a travel project that sends artists to various locations around the world, are available on The Jaunt’s website, and more of her work can be found on Instagram.

You can really see that she’s perfected the skill over time. She includes a lot of her personal style in her art today, whether she’s working on commercial or personal projects.
“Illustration has always been part of who I am. I fell in love with drawing as soon as I could hold a crayon, and it’s the only true way I know how to share my way of seeing and thinking about the world,” Martinez writes on her website. She describes herself as an introvert who loves plants, animals, landscapes, and female soul. She spends most of her time with coffee and her sketchbook, and when she’s not inside, she’s walking her dog in nature.

— Tumi (@Tumi213) August 20, 2021
User @Tumi213 wrote, “Imagine an episode of The Office where they all have to get vaccinated,” and the fans of the show quickly replied with many creative responses. The first reference includes Michael Scott’s famous hatred for Toby. According to one response, Michael would sign up everyone for the vaccine in order to keep them safe… Except for Toby, who sucks.
Most people imagine Dwight as an anti-vax, and he has good arguments for it because he believes that only the strongest ones should survive. Ryan finds a way to use the virus as an excuse to get rid of Kelly. Jim already got his vaccine, but he won’t miss a chance to prank Dwight and have some fun. Pam made masks for everyone, but found half of them in the trash.

]]>“Since the early 2000s, Lui Ferreyra has developed a technique which implements geometric fragments that coalesce into complex color-fields. In their totality, these color-fields call attention to the faculty of seeing itself. Through the classical tradition of oil on canvas, his works depict a break-down of subject-matter in an aesthetic that is evocative of today’s digital-age,” reads his website.
He always uses bold colors and geometric shapes to emphasize the people in his portraits. He always knew he’d become an artist; he had a supportive family who discovered his talent early and continued to work on his talent throughout childhood and adulthood. As he said in an interview for American Express Essentials, there was never a doubt that he’d become a professional artist.
Ferreyra was born in Mexico and moved to the US with his family when he was 11. Art helped him connect with peers while he struggled to learn English. See his work below and find more on Instagram.

“The other day I was walking down the street and a fantastic looking schoolboy with a huge afro passed me on the street. I very nearly stopped and asked if I could draw him but couldn’t quite summon the courage. When I got home I told my boyfriend and he said do NOT go round asking schoolboys back to your flat for a couple of hours so you can draw them. The voice of sanity,” he tells It’s Nice That.
Years of experience thought him not to judge a model before he does a drawing. He had done failed portraits of fashion models and gorgeous pictures of ordinary people with interesting features. Check out some of his work below and visit his Instagram for more.

]]>Hagale is old-school when it comes to tools. She creates her drawings on off-white paper using only pencils. There’s plenty of empty space in each of her works, which puts all the focus exactly where she wants it.
Three factors contribute to her choosing this exact style. The first one is her background in graphic design, where “the message is everything and anything that gets in the way of that may as well not be there,” as she tells It’s Nice That. The second factor is her love for a minimalist style that she finds calming to draw. The third one is the effect she wants to produce—she wants all eyes to be pointed to one thing in each of her works.
