David Bird Crafts Adorable Woodland Creatures Using Acorns and Sticks

When he left his job as a LEGO designer several years ago, artist David Bird found himself missing the opportunity to come up with all sorts of intriguing characters and build them from “the never-ending supply of building parts.” However, he soon realized that he could do all of that without LEGO.

Bird decided to “trade plastic bricks for acorns and sticks,” as he puts it, and started creating figurines of small woodland creatures he called “Becorns”. None of the creatures he creates are the same, and he comes up with a name and personal story for each one.

For example, Bing is a Becorn who embarked on a trip to explore Foggy Forest with his “trusty guide Silver”.

Besides putting much effort into designing these unique creatures, Bird also makes sure to present them in the best way possible. He spends countless hours examining animal behavior and waiting to get a perfect shot of Beacorns interacting with nature.

“Kind of the essence of Becorns is this wonder about the natural world and sort of experiencing nature and the wonder of nature in kind of a pure way,” Bird shared in a recent chat with PBS.

Bird regularly shares new Becorns on his social media while also exhibiting them in various galleries across the United States. You can check more of his works below.
