]]>Winston The Whale is a Portland, Oregon-based artist known for his psychedelic and vibrant tattoos. They often feature skulls, animals, plants, and geometrical objects dressed in abstract and colorful designs that immediately capture everyone’s attention.
Winston The Whale started out as a street artist, doing graffiti and murals. His street art helped him to carve out a unique style that he kept once he ventured into tattooing.
He first emerged on the tattoo scene with 3D-like tattoos that featured dizzy designs done with blue and red ink. As he honed his tattoo skills, his designs became more complex and colorful.
“I just really love colors, and as I’ve gotten better at using them, then I’ve been able to turn the style up more and make them a little bit more complex,” the artist explained in a recent interview.

]]>At first glance, Hall’s tattoos look like the works of a skilled tattoo artist. They are beautifully designed, realistic, and made with keen attention to detail. Hall strategically uses a UV special ink to amplify certain elements of the tattoo, like borders, facial features, and smaller details. The ink is almost invisible under normal light, but when exposed to black light, it produces an amazing effect that makes the tattoo come to life.
According to Hall, working with this special ink is quite demanding, considering it has a thinner consistency compared to traditional ink. However, he doesn’t mind the hassle as it gives his clients tattoos that they will cherish for the rest of their lives.
“The one thing I guarantee in my work is absolute pride in every single piece no matter how big or small,” he shares.

]]>Ovenlee studied art in college, but tattooing was the last thing on her mind. She started sharing her drawings on social media, and something clicked when someone asked to get a tattoo based on one of her drawings. She decided to give it a shot and quickly fell in love with the idea that someone could carry her art with them for the rest of their life.
She choose the alter ego Ovenlee because she wanted to translate the warmth of an oven into her drawings and tattoos. Nature became her main source of inspiration, and she relied on bright colors and pencil-like textures to bring her tattoos to life.
“I think my paintings and tattoos are in a fairytale and cottage core style. The objects I depict evoke memories and I draw them in warm colors… The thing that makes my tattoos different is that I don’t add contrast with black ink. The design is done with just color ink,” she told Things & Ink.

]]>At first glance, Remy B’s works seem like your everyday geometric and ornamental tattoos. However, once you slide a transparent perforated sheet across them, they suddenly start moving. This includes blinking eyes, hourglasses, moon and sun cycles, and much more.
Even if you don’t have a special plastic sheet to bring your tattoos to life, they can still move with the help of your smartphone. Remy B developed an Instagram filter that does the same job as the sheet with an added bonus that you can record the movement.
According to his bio, Remy B originally worked as a graphic designer in Paris for seven years before moving to Marseille. There, he discovered his passion for tattoos and decided to establish a tattoo studio called Prisme Tattoo. His previous experience in a graphic design influenced his unique style as a tattoo artist and prompted him to use advanced software to create “more graphic and complex patterns.”

]]>Xinamon is a Korean tattoo artist based in Los Angeles, and the story behind her alter ego is pretty interesting. It’s a combination of her Korean name and Pokémon, but she also opted for this moniker because it sounds just like cinnamon.
시나몬 (@xinamon_tattoo)Her inked creations bring forth a whimsical fusion of art and nature by presenting cats, dogs, dolphins, and other animals in an adorable light. Her tattoos evoke a sense of joy with every stroke of the needle thanks to their vibrant blend of colors and undeniable kawaii vibe.
Xinamon is best known for her custom pet design tattoos, and she always tries to make her tattoos as unique as possible.
“My flash designs are generally not repeatable with the exception of matching tattoos. I rarely modify or create variations to be different: animals, color patterns, and elements. However, these specific flash designs are repeatable: birth flowers, zodiac animals, and constellations,” she explained on her official website.

]]>Wu’s tattoos are usually confined in comic-book-style panels, and each of them tells a particular story. However, Wu is just inspired by the style and comes up with the scenes for the tattoos by herself with input from her clients.
In some cases, the characters or scenery escapes the panel, making the tattoos even more intriguing and thought-provoking. It’s almost like they are crossing into another illustration or leaving room for the continuation of the story.

Her unique style and precision led the reputable NY tattoo studio Fleur Noire Tattoo to recruit her as part of their team.
“I push myself to build a genuine connection between myself and the client, to best be able to create work that represents that understanding,” she shares on her website.

]]>The beauty of black, white, and gray is that through clever manipulation a feeling of depth is created. In fact, black and white tattoos are considered more sophisticated and should definitely be on your radar.
If you’re looking for some black and white/gothic tattoo inspiration we recommend following Katy Wiedemann on Instagram. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Illustration, as well as a MA in Illustration from Edinburgh College of Art, her pieces are very much realistic and stand out for their quality and level of detail. With common themes including goth kids’ favorites such as insects and mythical beasts, it’s easy to see the appeal.
According to Wiedemann, her main inspiration comes from anatomical museums around the world. Wiedemann notes one museum in particular, in La Specola in Florence, Italy, which holds life-sized wax anatomical models, presented in centuries-old wooden cabinets.
Wiedemann’s interest in anatomy translates not only to her tattoo art, but to her illustrations in general. In fact, she’s first and foremost trained as a scientific illustrator and has even illustrated a book dedicated to human anatomy.
“I am fortunate enough to have two careers that I love, which have ultimately merged together,” Wiedemann relayed once in an interview with Female Tattooers. “I can use tattooing as the medium for my love of scientific imagery. It is such an honor—not only to be taught how to tattoo—but also having the trust of my clients who will wear my art on their bodies for the rest of their lives.”
“Usually, the most difficult part of my job in both fields is frequently being asked to draw something that has been done countless times over and try to make it unique,” she notes. Judging by the end results, she’s quite up for the challenge. Prepare to be inspired!

According to JoJo, he started doing this style of tattoo about four years ago, and people really like it.
“I didn’t think they were particularly unique, but I‘m grateful that many people appreciate them for their individuality,“ the artist, who is currently based in Toronto, Canada, shared when reached out by Bored Panda.
The appreciation for his unique tattoos prompted JoJo to return to these characters frequently and even turn them into a webtoon. Sometimes his cartoonish animal tattoos get turned into detailed and adorable illustrations, while other times, the illustrations end up inspiring a new tattoo design.

]]>In a recent appearance on 60 Second Docs, Gherman decided to reveal more details about his tattooing process. According to the tattoo artist, fingernail tattoos are not something new, but he does it in a detailed way that has been rarely done before.
Gherman explains that fingernail tattoos don’t hurt, but they require extreme caution and precision. If done right, they end up in a pleasurable result for both him and the person getting the tattoo.
“It keeps me interested in the world around me, and to see it grow out, it means you have a brand new canvas again. It’s phenomenal,” he shared the reason behind his fascination with fingernail tattoos.
Gherman works from his private studios in Miami and New York City. He does everything from elaborate and detailed tattoos to micro tattoos.
