Tattooist Sion is Paying Homage to Korean Culture Through Her Tattoo Art

Tattooist Sion became one of the most popular Korean tattoo artists on Instagram with 200,000 followers and counting, and she’s doing a great job paying homage to her home country. She’s best known for putting traditional Korean knots front and center in her uniquely beautiful tattoo art.

Sion fell in love with tattoos thanks to her mother, who was also a tattoo artist. She enjoyed seeing her mother work and developed a fascination for the powerful messages that tattoos could leave on a person’s skin. This made her realize tattoo art is her true calling, and went on to become a key member of the Korean tattoo community.

Sion is now based in Los Angeles, but she used to work at the Seoul-based Robin Egg Studio. She enjoys paying homage to Korean culture through her art, with a special focus on Korean traditional knots.

Her tattoo art features everything from flowers and plants to birds and dragons, but she always makes sure to add Korean knots to the mix.

“I am especially fond of the works that utilize the traditional knots. Korean traditional knot symbolizes Korea’s native spirit of tying and cutting of the relationship between individuals. Specifically, it is densely woven, so that the beautiful relationships do not spill out,” Sion told Tattoodo.
